Philosophy of Wellness
Wellness is better described as a state of homeostasis on every level of being (physical, emotional. mental, and spiritual). Like nature, your body is constantly striving towards balance. Your internal "terrain" is bombarded on a daily basis by obstacles to health including stress, genetic tendencies, poor nutrition, environmental toxins, infections, and more.
Disease is essentially the imbalance of this cellular terrain. The obstacles are too many or too intense and your body is not able to bring itself back into an optimum state. You then experience symptoms, which are essentially manifestations of this imbalance. Over time, neglect of these symptoms may lead to a chronic state of imbalance or disease that takes time to reverse. Removing the obstacles to health whenever possible and providing support so that the body can come back to balance is the goal!
By seeing health and disease from this viewpoint, it becomes clear why it is essential to address the underlying imbalance (rather than just the symptoms) and to treat the whole person.
My Guiding Principles
- The doctor as teacher. Education is the foundation of my practice. True change comes with knowledge. I welcome all types of questions and am committed to helping you understand your body and health.
- Your participation in your own healing process. Your dedication and commitment to making lifestyle changes and being open to new ways of healing is critical. This is a team approach. I will provide the guidance, but you are ultimately responsible for following through with the healing changes.
- Finding the underlying cause. Your body is intricate and symptoms are an external sign that something deeper exists. Rather than simply masking or treating these symptoms, we will work together to uncover the deeper imbalances at work.
- Respect and listening. I respect you and value your insight into your health history. I will listen to you and take the time to hear your story. Similarly, I will respect your needs. If something I suggest is not working for you, it is best to let me know as soon as possible so we can investigate other alternatives.
- Keeping it as simple as possible. Sometimes the greatest healing comes with the simplest approach. Although some cases require a more complex treatment plan, I vow to keep it as simple and affordable for you as possible.
